VADIMONIA

Broadly, a pledge or guarantee. When charters were given to towns by the king, they confirmed all previous grants, privileges and lands, freedom from taxes and other benefits. Vadimonia was included in such a charter, confirming all lands mortgaged to the town. [< Lat. vadio = to give surety or security]
